3rd Confederate National Flag

As low as:

$64.70

The Third Confederate National Flag was adopted in March 1865, during the final months of the Civil War. Its design retained the Confederate battle flag in the canton but added a vertical red stripe at the fly end to the otherwise white field.

This modification was made to correct a major flaw in the earlier Second Confederate National Flag, which could easily be mistaken for a flag of truce or surrender when hanging still. The added red stripe improved visibility and clearly distinguished it as a national flag.

Because it was adopted so late in the war, the Third Confederate National Flag saw limited actual use before the Confederacy collapsed. As a result, it is less commonly encountered than the earlier Confederate national flags, but it represents the final official flag of the Confederate States of America.
