Fort Sumter Flag (33-Star U.S. Flag, Civil War Era)

As low as:

$99.00

This Fort Sumter flag is a historical reproduction of the 33-star United States flag flown at Fort Sumter at the opening of the American Civil War in 1861. It is crafted as a sewn nylon flag, featuring appliqued stars and sewn stripes for an authentic, traditional appearance. The design includes a very unique 33-star pattern with cocked (tilted) stars, a distinctive and uncommon arrangement seen on some Civil War–era flags that adds to its collectible and historical appeal.

Historical Significance:
After the bombardment of Fort Sumter in April 1861, Union commander Robert Anderson surrendered the outnumbered garrison on the condition that his men be allowed to salute the U.S. flag that had flown over the fort. During the salute, an accidental explosion killed Private Daniel Hough, the first casualty of the Civil War. Anderson carried the 33-star flag north, where it became a powerful symbol of the Union, appearing at rallies and inspiring enlistment throughout the North. Four years later, on April 14, 1865, Anderson returned to Fort Sumter and raised the same flag in triumph, marking both the beginning and the symbolic close of the Civil War.

Ideal for collectors, historians, reenactors, and educational displays, this flag represents one of the most meaningful and recognizable banners in American history.
