11th Virginia Regiment (American Revolution)
Morgan’s Rifles were the famed riflemen of the 11th Virginia Regiment, commanded by Daniel Morgan. Renowned for their exceptional marksmanship and frontier skills, these sharpshooters played a crucial role in early Revolutionary War campaigns, including actions around Boston, Quebec, and Saratoga.
Armed with long rifles rather than smoothbore muskets, Morgan’s men excelled at skirmishing, reconnaissance, and targeting enemy officers, helping give the Continental Army a critical tactical edge. The unit’s reputation for accuracy, discipline, and toughness made Morgan’s Rifles one of the most respected formations of the American Revolution.
